Pictured in front of the Turf Field are a few members of the YMCA Spring Gala Planning Committee with Sheryl Stone: Phil Volpe, President of the YMCA Board of Directors; Brogan Sanderson; Sheryl Stone; Adriene Presti; and Doug Pszczolkowski, CEO of the Hopewell Valley YMCA. Missing from the picture are Suzette Belder-Carr, Chair of the Planning Committee; Lisa Forrester; and Stephanie Garnich.

Save the date…the Hopewell Valley YMCA will host its Spring Gala & Dinner Dance at TPC Jasna Polana on Friday, April 19th.  This year’s event will celebrate the incredible accomplishments of Sheryl Stone, Chair of the Recreation Foundation of Hopewell Valley.  Under Sheryl’s leadership, the Recreation Foundation has successfully installed fields for numerous local youth sports organizations.  The Fields at Back Timberlane and the recent Hopewell Valley Turf Field behind the high school are a few of those major accomplishments.  Ms Stone started the Recreation Foundation of Hopewell Valley after having led the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance.  After completing a community needs assessment where respondents overwhelmingly lamented the need for local recreational activities and facilities, Ms Stone took the helm of starting the Recreation Foundation.

“Although I am really honored to receive this recognition, it’s really on behalf of the Recreation Foundation… it’s all really for the KIDS!” remarked Sheryl Stone.  Previous recipients of the award include: John Phillips, Pat and Mika Ryan, and the Rothwell Family/Pennington Quality Market.  “It is quite humbling to join such a prestigious list of previous recipients,” explained Ms Stone.

Join us! on April 19th to honor Sheryl Stone for all that she has done for the community.

The planning committee is seeking additional members to join them.  Also needed are sponsors, donations, auction items, and advertisers to support the grand event.  Proceeds from the evening are used to provide financial assistance to local families for child care, summer camp, youth sports, swimming lessons and to operate the Hopewell Valley Youth Activity Center.

Before and After School Program in the News

July 27, 2012

Starting this fall, The Hopewell Valley YMCA and The Hopewell Valley After School Program will open this September as a single program. The Hopewell Valley After School Program (HVASP) and the Hopewell Valley YMCA will merge under the umbrella of the YMCA to offer the Before and After Care of Hopewell Valley program. HVASP Director Karen Sharp and YMCA Program Director, Daniel Williams will continue to lead the new program. Before and after care services will continue to be offered at all four local elementary schools and Timberlane middle school; however, the hours will be extended to 7am-6:30pm. Most adult staffers will remain to help build continuity as the program grows and strengthens. In addition to these services, the new program will also be offering programs that include age appropriate activities for the different levels of students attending, as well as enrichment programs such as homework help and even tutoring. The new organization will be under contract with the Hopewell Valley Regional School District (HVRSD), which will have oversight of the program. Also new is the development of a Parent Advisory Committee, made up of parents and school administrators who will meet quarterly to discuss the program. The program will continue to be flexible, offering childcare one to five days a week, as well as drop-in availability and extended hours. The new program will continue to offer the quality programming that parents have come to expect and count on for years.
